New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce India’s Test squad for their upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies next week. India are scheduled to host West Indies in a two-match series after the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. The Test series will get underway on October 02, with the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Sunday confirmed that India’s squad for the West Indies series will be announced on September 23 or 24. The two-match Test series will be India’s first home assignment under new Test skipper Shubman Gill, who led the visitors to a 2-2 draw in the Test series against England earlier this year.
“The selection for the Indian Test team for the upcoming Test series against West Indies will be done on Sept 23 or 24… selection meeting will be online,” Saikia told reporters at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Sunday.
While the first Test will be played in Ahmedabad from October 02, the second Test will get underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on October 10. India lost their last home Test series against New Zealand and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways against West Indies. The West Indies series will also mark India’s first home assignment in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
What changes are expected in India’s squad for West Indies Test series?
There are multiple changes expected in India’s Test squad for the home series against West Indies. India will miss the services of Rishabh Pant, who is still recovering from his ankle injury. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel or KL Rahul are likely to keep wickets for India against West Indies.
India are also likely to rest pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and pick a spin-heavy squad for the two-match rubber. Kuldeep Yadav, alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, will be India’s lead spinners in the match. If Bumrah is rested, Mohammed Siraj will lead India’s pace attack with support from Prasidh Krishna and Arshdeep Singh.
There are also strong chances of Shreyas Iyer making his comeback in the Indian Test squad for the West Indies series. He might replace senior batter Karun Nair, who couldn’t capitalise on the chances in England.
