Why No Conch in Shiv Puja: Shiva is known as the destroyer god in this world. He lives in Mount Kailash and the crematorium. Worship of Lord Shiva is very simple. It is said that Mahadev becomes happy just by offering a pot of water. Whoever Mahadev is pleased with, his house is filled with wealth. Even death cannot harm a devotee of Mahadev. Special Jalabhishek of the Lord is performed on Sawan and Mahashivratri, but do you know that conch shell is prohibited in the worship of Mahadev? There are religious, mythological and spiritual bases behind this.
The sound of conch is considered very sacred. It is considered one of the main weapons of Lord Vishnu. Conch is blown during worship, but blowing of conch is prohibited in Shiva worship. According to the legend, the conch is associated with the body of a demon who was defeated by Lord Vishnu. This is the reason why in some texts the conch is considered to be born from “mritaj” i.e. a dead body. On this basis, offering water from the conch shell during Shiva worship is not considered appropriate.
Shiva is the god of renunciation
Conch is dear to Lord Vishnu and its main connection is said to be Vaishnav tradition. At the same time, worship and worship of Lord Shiva is done through meditation, silence and penance. Peace and simplicity have been given more importance in Shiva worship. The sound of conch is said to be a symbol of celebration, victory and auspiciousness. On the contrary, Shiva is considered the god of yoga, samadhi and renunciation.
Silent meditation of Shiva is more fruitful
Calmness, meditation and concentration have special importance in the worship of Lord Shiva. The tradition of offering water, milk or Panchamrit from a normal vessel on Shivalinga is more prevalent. According to religious beliefs, making noise during Shiva worship is not very fruitful. On the contrary, the results of silent worship of Shiva are much greater.
