America is now preparing to give India another big blow after H-1B visa. American senators have proposed to impose tariffs on India’s shrimp exports. Republican Senator Bill Cassidi and Cindy Hyde-Smith have introduced “India Shrimp Tariff Act” in the US Congress. They allege that India is selling shrimp in the American market through wrong trade methods, causing heavy losses to Louisiana’s shrimp and catfish industry.

The American senator said that this bill will save our seafood industry and thousands of jobs related to it. Indian shrimp companies are dumping at cheap prices, while our local producers follow strict rules. Hyde-Smith also said that Indian shrimp exports are harming American industry and customers. He claims that this law will give a chance to the American industry. Cassidi had earlier raised the issue in the Senate Finance Committee and had promised the Treasury candidate to support local shrimp producers. Earlier, in early 2025, Cassidi and other MPs also introduced a bill to ban rice from India-China.

H-1B visa increased fees

On the other hand, President Donald Trump has made a big change in the rules of H-1B visa. The new orders have come into force from 21 September 2025. Under the new rule, a huge fee of $ 1,00,000, or about 88 lakh rupees will have to be paid for H-1B visa. The Trump government says that this step is to stop misuse. This will increase the burden of financial and rules on Indian IT companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro. According to the data, Indians get 71-72% H-1B visas, so it will have the most impact on India. Experts believe that this is a double disadvantage for India. Tariffs on shrimp exports will affect foreign trade and new conditions of H-1B visa can damage India’s $ 125 billion Remedies.
