Which two MLAs have Trinamool Congress (TMC) expelled from the primary membership of the party? What allegations has the party made against Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee? What was the ‘forged signature’ controversy that forced TMC to take this action? What statement did TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh give regarding the action of both the MLAs?
Kolkata: After the setback in the assembly elections, internal strife in Trinamool Congress (TMC) has intensified. TMC has expelled Entally MLA Sandipan Saha and Uluberia East MLA Ritabrata Banerjee from the party on charges of anti-party activities. Both have been immediately removed from the primary membership of the party.
The information about their removal was given through a letter signed by the party’s Vice President Chandrima Bhattacharya. The letter said that both the MLAs were continuously missing from party meetings and were making statements and working against the interests of the party.
The reason for this immediate action is the controversy related to ‘forged signatures’. This controversy is related to the party’s letter to make Sovandeb Chattopadhyay the leader of the opposition in the assembly. These two MLAs had complained to the Speaker that the signatures on the letter submitted by TMC were fake. As soon as West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held a press conference on the issue, Trinamool Congress took this strict disciplinary action against its MLAs.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said on this that going directly to the Speaker without informing the party leadership is a betrayal of those who have won votes by using Mamata Banerjee’s picture and symbol. Earlier, the absence of 61 out of 80 Trinamool MLAs at the party meeting has indicated a major crisis in the TMC camp.
