Karan Johar promises bigger twists as ‘The Traitors’ Season 2 brings paranoia, broken alliances

Filmmaker and host Karan Johar has revealed that the upcoming second season of the reality streaming show ‘The Traitors’ will feature intense gameplay, fractured friendships and shifting loyalties as contestants navigate a world of suspicion and betrayal.

The trailer of the new season was released on Friday, introducing 21 celebrity contestants from different fields who will compete for the coveted title. The lineup includes Aaditya Kulshreshth aka Kullu, Abhishek Malhan aka Fukraa Insaan, Ansh Chopra, Dalip Tahil, Harman Singha, Ikka Singh, Karan Singh Magic, Krystle D’Souza, Mallika Sherawat, Munawar Faruqui, Parul Gulati, Prish, Ranveer Brar, Rhea Chakraborty, Rida Tharana, Sahil Salathia, Shahneel Gill, Shalini Passi, Shweta Tiwari, Soundous Moufakir and Tanya Puri.

Set against the backdrop of a grand palace, the trailer teases a game where appearances can be deceptive and every conversation could hide a secret strategy. In the trailer, Karan Johar sets the mood by saying, “This palace looks like a dream… and I can’t wait to turn that dream into a nightmare.”

Speaking about the upcoming season, Karan said the first season succeeded because it offered audiences something different from conventional reality shows.

“Season one of ‘The Traitors’ broke through the clutter and formulaic reality content, and the audience response proved they were ready for something fresh. With season two, we knew we had to return with a game that was bigger, sharper and even more unpredictable,” he said.

The host added that contestants entered the new season with greater awareness of the format, stronger strategies and a more competitive mindset.

“This season, you’ll witness friendships unravel, trust give way to paranoia, alliances crumble, and players make choices that genuinely surprised and at times, even shocked me,” Karan said.

He further added that the unpredictable nature of the game remains its biggest attraction. “Just when you think you’ve figured it out, the game turns everything on its head,” he said, urging viewers to be prepared for unexpected twists.

‘The Traitors’ is the Indian adaptation of IDTV’s BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning global format. The show is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment in association with All3Media International.

The second season of ‘The Traitors’ will premiere on Prime Video on August 13.
