New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets as England suffered a mini-collapse in the first session on Day 2 of the ongoing 3rd Test against India at Lord’s in London on Friday, July 11. The hosts post 353/7 at lunch following the unbeaten 82-run partnership between Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse for the eighth wicket.
Joe Root completed his 37th Test hundred with a boundary on the first ball of Day 2, and it looked like he would form a big partnership with Stokes, but Bumrah had other plans as he removed England’s captain on 44. He bowled a good length outside off delivery, and it jagged in through the defences of Stokes and hit into the top of off stump.
He picked up his third wicket of the match by dismissing Root on 104. Bumrah bowled another good-length delivery, and he drew forward to push the ball, but it nipped back in and took the inside edge and crashed into the middle stump. On the very next delivery, he removed Chris Woakes on a duck with a fuller length ball, which nipped away, and the all-rounder tried to push it through the gap but got a thick edge of the bat.
After the early blows on Day 2, Carse and Smith forged an unbeaten 82-run partnership and helped England to recover. Both batters frustrated the Indian side by playing good shots through cover and down the ground. Smith completed his half-century in 52 balls while Carse is batting on 33* at lunch on Day 2.
