Air India Plane Crash: A preliminary report into the deadly crash of the Air India flight, AI171, is likely to be released on Friday, reported Reuters, citing sources.
The London-bound Air India flight crashed into a hostel complex in Ahmedabad moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport there on June 12 afternoon, killing 270 persons, including 241 on board.
While no formal announcement has been made regarding the release date, three sources told Reuters on Thursday that investigators could possibly release a preliminary report on June 11. The sources, however, cautioned the news agency that plans could change as there was not much clarity.
The black boxes of the Air India flight, AI171, were not damaged, and the investigators have been able to extract “good data” from them, officials told Indian lawmakers, according to Reuters. The report was published after a parliamentary panel meeting on aviation on Wednesday.
An aircraft’s “Black Box” is actually bright orange and includes two very tough devices designed to survive extreme crashes, fires, and deep water pressure – the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR).
Following the June 12 crash, the black box was recovered from the rooftop of the building AI171 crashed.
Earlier this week, a parliamentary panel was told that the preliminary report on Air India crash will be made public in a couple of day.
The probe into the Air India plane crash is being led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). Under the civil aviation ministry, AAIB is responsible for the classification of safety occurrences, involving aircraft operating in the Indian airspace into accidents and serious incidents.
