Lord’s Test: India sweat on Pant injury as visitors stare at huge setback on Day 2

New Delhi: Team India is staring at a major setback on Day 2 of the third Test at Lord’s as the suspense surrounding the injury to Rishabh Pant has left the fans worried. Pant, India’s ace wicket-keeper batter left the field, on Day 1 after getting injured in the 33rd over of the innings while trying to collect a wayward delivery from Jasprit Bumrah.

He straightaway called on the dugout for some treatment but couldn’t continue due to the discomfort and walked off the field, prompting Dhruv Jurel to come on the field to keep wickets.

A few hours later, the Board of Control for India (BCCI) gave an update on the injury and revealed that Pant got hit on his left index finger and is receiving treatment under the supervision of the medical team.

Since the last update, there has been no news on his injury, leaving the fans worried about Pant’s well-being and availability. While Jurel is an able replacement as a wicketkeeper, India would miss Pant’s services dearly in batting order if he doesn’t recover in time.

India staring at huge setback

If Pant fails to get fit, India will suffer a massive setback in the ongoing Test at Lord’s. The Delhi cricketer is currently the second-highest run-getter in the series for Team India with 342 runs in four innings at an average of 85.50. He scored two centuries in the first Test at Headingley and a fifty in the second match at Edgbaston.

Courtesy of his twin centuries, Pant surpassed legendary cricketer MS Dhoni for most Test centuries by a keeper-batter for India and highest run tally by an Asian wicketkeeper in SENA countries.

Meanwhile, Indian bowlers produced a disciplined performance on Day 1 at Lord’s forcing England to shun “Bazball” and play conservative, orthodox cricket. At Stumps on Day 1, England were 251/4, with Joe Root (99*) and skipper Ben Stokes (39*) batting at the crease. For India Nitish Kumar Reddy was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah snared a wicket apiece.
