The 1996 disputed ‘brown hair clean’ slogan in Bihar has emerged again. The statements of RJD leaders are contrary to the A to Z agenda of Tejashwi Yadav and 90% vs are promoting 10% ethnic politics, which causes a stir within the party.
The three -decade -old controversy has once again shaken the politics of Bihar. In 1996, the echo of the slogan “Brown Bal Clean” associated with the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is now recited in the statement of RJD leaders. RJD MLA Munna Yadav recently said, “Here Sharma, Mishra will have nothing, brown hair will have to be cleaned.” Apart from this, senior leader Ashok Mahato also taunted, “10 percent can never dominate 90 percent, and 10 percent will not decide who will be the Chief Minister.”
Tejashwi’s A to Z Agenda, Leader said B to Z
Tejashwi Yadav had given the party an agenda to raise all -round and castes. That is, A to Z, but their MLAs and leaders are reminding the party of this A to Z of B to Z politics. The old disputed slogan has blurred discipline and message within the party.
Caste Mathematics of Bihar: 90-10 game
The most backward classes in Bihar are 27.12%, extremely backward 36.01%, Scheduled Castes 19.65%, Scheduled Tribes 1.68%and upper caste 15.52%. The RJD’s disputed statement made it clear that ethnic polarization could again become an election issue.
BJP’s strict comment
BJP spokesperson Prabhakar Mishra said, “The poison of 1996 is still coming out of RJD leaders. Tejashwi described himself as a to Z party, but his MLAs are spewing the same old poison.”
Stir within the party
RJD leaders are currently silent. None of the condemnation, but the slogan of brown hair cleaning has increased the movement within the party. Tejashwi Yadav will now have to show that A to Z agenda is not limited to posters and slogans.

What is ‘Clean Brown Hair’
‘Brown Bal Clean’ is a disputed political slogan which is related to the politics of Bihar of the 1990s. This slogan mentions ‘Bhoomi’ from Bhumihar, ‘Ra’ from Rajput, ‘Ba’ from Brahmin and Lala (Kayastha) castes from ‘La’. This slogan targets the castes who are considered as the upper caste in Bihar. The slogan is associated with the era of the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav of the time when his party was at the peak of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the politics of the Dalit-Muslim coalition. The objective of this slogan is to be considered to be kept away from power and influence to these major upper castes. However, Lalu Prasad Yadav and the RJD party have constantly denied shouting such slogans and described it as social stress. However, this slogan caused a lot of political controversies around 1996 and even today, the mention of this slogan in Bihar politics creates controversy.
