Global Day of Parents is celebrated on 1 June.
There are strict rules in many countries of the world regarding parental care. Be it China or Japan, special provisions have been made in the laws for the care of parents. China’s rule made in 2013 says that if a child has become an adult, he will have to meet his elderly parents regularly. If he does not do this, the parents can complain about it in the court.
The purpose of this law is that children take care of the emotional needs of their parents. Not only this, in other countries also there are laws in which provision for providing financial help to the parents and meeting them regularly has been made.
What are the rules like in Japan and Singapore?
The rules are less strict in Japan compared to China. Here the family has a moral responsibility to take care of the elderly, Japan’s civil law says that the responsibility of financial support can increase on family members if needed. Here, the government has prepared a long term care insurance system for the care of the elderly. so There is more emphasis on social and government assistance rather than legal pressure.

Singapore is strict in terms of maternal care. Here the Maintenance of Parents Act (1995) says that parents aged 60 years or more can ask for financial support from their children. If the children do not cooperate, the case may go to a special tribunal. The court can order regular payments to the children.

How is the law in India?
Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens 2007 is a provision for taking care of parents in India. It was created for the economic, social and legal security of elderly parents and senior citizens. The purpose of the law is to ensure that children or legal heirs do not leave their parents destitute.
The law says that if a parent or a senior citizen above 60 years of age cannot sustain himself from his income or property, he can demand maintenance from his children or legal heirs.
Responsibility has also been fixed for this law. In the law, excluding minors, “children” include son, daughter, grandson and granddaughter. The law says that maintenance does not just mean money. This includes basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, medicine and treatment.

Why do we celebrate this special day on 1st June?
Global Day of Parents is celebrated every year on 1 June. It is celebrated on June 1 because the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 2012 declaring June 1 as the Global Day of Parents. After this, this day started being celebrated all over the world on 1 June. The purpose of celebrating this special day is to honor the selfless love and dedication of parents. Along with this, respect and care towards elderly parents has to be promoted in the society.
Its importance is even greater for India because there is a tradition of giving special respect to parents. The message of “Matri Devo Bhavah, Pitru Devo Bhavah” teaches us to treat parents as gods. Because of this feeling this day becomes more special for India.
