New Delhi: Indian pacer fast bowler Arshdeep Singh had to wait for 8 long months, but he finally achieved a historic feat in T20I cricket as the Men in Blue defeated Oman by 21 runs in their last group stage match at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The left-arm seamer made his debut for India in 2022 against New Zealand and, since then, has been taking wickets consistently in the shortest format.
He became the first-ever Indian bowler to complete 100 wickets in T20I cricket. Arshdeep was stuck on 99 wickets after the team management decided to drop him for the last two games against England in January 2025. After that, there were no T20I games scheduled for the Men in Blue before the Asia Cup 2025, and the fast bowler had to wait for a long time to achieve this milestone.
Arshdeep had to wait for his chance in the T20 Asia Cup as well after Suryakumar and Co. decided to include only one pacer in the playing XI. Jasprit Bumrah played the first two matches with Hardik Pandya sharing the new ball with him. The left-pacer got his chance in the final group-stage game of the tournament and picked up his 100th wicket in the last over of the match, removing Oman’s Vinayak Shukla.
He reached the milestone in his 64th T20I and is the 25th bowler in the 100-plus wicket club, which includes 12 other fast bowlers.
