Sai Pallavi’s Ramayana Co-Star Surabhi Das Defends Her Styling As Mata Sita: Scale Will Overshadow These Concerns | EXCL

The Ramayana trailer sparked conversations on social media. Forget the visuals and storytelling; a section of the audience seemed more concerned about the clothes worn by Sai Pallavi’s Sita and Lara Dutta’s Kaikeyi. Calling it too modern for ‘Treta Yug’, they feared that the sentiments of the Hindu audience would be hurt throughout the film. While the trailer just offered a 4-minute glimpse into the world of Ramayana, the internet criticised the makers for approving bright coloured sarees and blouses. Amid the debate between historical accuracy and creative liberty, Surabhi Das defended the film.

In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Surabhi, who plays Sita’s youngest cousin sister Shrutakirti, said the scale of   is so huge that the audience will not be able to notice such minor things. She also added that every decision taken during filmmaking will be questioned by the audience, and it is not possible to please everyone.

She told us, “I feel people will always have something to say. Agar hum Sita ko blouse nahi pehnate, tab bhi logon ka opinion hota ki unko blouse kaise nahi pehnaya. Jab blouse pehnaya tab bhi problem hai. People will always point out things. Ramayana is a huge project, and you can’t expect everyone to agree and like that. I am not saying sab kuch perfect hoga, but please wait for the film. You will understand what they are offering only after going to theatres.”

Surabhi added, “The film is mounted on such a huge scale that yeh saari cheezein notice hi nahi hogi. Isse pehle bhi Ramayana pe kitne saare films aaye, I am sure people had things to say. They must have had disagreements aur voh toh hoga hi. You can’t please everybody. Ab ismein blouse pehnaya toh bhi problem, nahi pehnaya toh bhi problem.”

Rimple and Harpreet Narula, who designed the costumes for Ramayana, defended the film in a recent interview. They urged the audience to watch the movie before jumping to conclusions.

Ramayana releases in theatres on Diwali. The first part of the franchise will focus on Rama’s   journey from being the prince of Ayodhya to his coronation ceremony, marriage with Sita, and a 14-year exile. Rama’s war with Ravana, played by Yash, will form the core of the second part. Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
