Russian tourists will be able to pay from UPI
Russian tourists coming to India will now be able to make cashless payment easily while walking here. Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, has partnered with India’s digital payment company Cheq. The statement issued by the bank said that this facility will further strengthen the economic and tourism relations between Russia and India.
Easy process through app
The CHEQ app is available on both iOS and Android platforms. Tourists coming from Russia will have to give passport and valid Indian visa for registration on this app. To activate the wallet, they have to meet an agent of Cheq in India, for which the appointment can be taken through the app. After the activation, tourists will be able to top their wallet directly from Sberbank Online and will be able to pay the QR code.
Relief from the problem of visa and mastercard
After the Ukraine war, Russian people are not able to use Visa and MasterCard abroad due to the ban on Russia. In such a situation, it was difficult for him to take a cash. Now they will get relief from this new option.
Sberbank deputy chairman Antoli Popov said, “Economic, tourism and migration relations between Russia and India are growing rapidly.” For this reason, cashless transactions are our priority. Indian workers can already send money to their family from Russia and Indian students can pay fees in Russia universities. Now Russian tourists will also be able to make cashless payment in India. We have chosen QR code payment, which is most commonly used in India.
Foreign tourists associated with UPI Onworld
Bangalore company Cheq is part of NPCI’s UPI ONEWORLD program. Through this program, foreign tourists, which do not have an Indian bank account, can also make UPI payment in India. They just have to complete the KYC by showing passport and visa.
Other companies like Pine Labs, Transcorp, IDFC First Bank and Triao also provide this facility, but with the partnership of Cheq and Sberbank, now Russian tourists will be able to pay through QR code by putting money in their Sberbank account directly from their Sberbank account.
India-Russia relations will get new direction
This facility will not only be convenient for tourists but will also strengthen the growing economic and technical relations between India and Russia. This will increase the use of cashless transactions more and the visit of Russian tourists will become easier.
