Lord’s Test: Joe Root becomes first batter to score 3000 runs against India, closes in on Sachin Tendulkar’s big feat

New Delhi: Joe Root scripted history on Thursday after the English batter become the first player to score 3000 runs against India in the Test format. Root achieved the milestone on first day of the third Test match in Lord’s. After England won the toss and opted to bat first, Nitish Kumar Reddy struck twice for the side to push the hosts against the wall.

While Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett departed to the pavilion, Root alongside Ollie Pope steadied the ship for the English team after stitching a useful stand. The right-handed batter achieved the milestone in his 60th Test innings vs India. Root joined the list of other illustrious batters in world cricket to record most Test runs against India. He also recorded 103 fifty plus scores in the Test format.

Apart from achieving this big feat, Root also closed in on Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most half-centuries in the longest format. Sachin Tendulkar has scored 68 half-centuries in 329 Test innings while Root smashed hos 67th half-ton in 287th innings. He has a highest score of 218 runs against India which he hit during England’s tour of India during 2021.
