New Delhi: A shocking incident took place on the auspicious day of Rath Yatra, when a girl from Tarapith in West Bengal was allegedly stabbed to death by her lover on Wednesday night at her house. Police say the accused committed suicide after murdering the woman. The deceased have been identified as Sushmita Bayen and Vikram Mal.
Vikram’s body found hanging from a tree
According to the police, Vikram entered Sushmita’s house at around 10 pm. He found her sleeping with her sister, allegedly grabbed her face, and stabbed her with a knife. Hearing her screams, Sushmita’s parents and sister woke up. On discovering the same, Vikram fled the scene. The family found Sushmita covered in blood and rushed her to Rampurhat Medical College for treatment, but she died on the way.
The next morning, locals discovered Vikram’s body hanging from a tree near Sahapur village, around 4 kilometers from Sushmita’s house. The police recovered the body and sent it to Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Rage led to murder, say family members
Sushmita’s parents told the police that the couple had been experiencing discord for some time. Despite her disapproval, Vikram continued to force contact. Sushmita had allegedly wanted to end the relationship and was planning to marry someone her family had chosen. Her parents believe Vikram, unable to accept this, lost control and murdered her in a fit of rage.
Vikram’s family has not come forward to provide any statement. Sharp weapons and other possible evidence have been recovered from the scene. No formal complaint has been filed by Vikram’s family so far, but the investigation is underway.
