Mumbai: Former India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, who was a key member of the Indian Test team for over a decade, recently announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.
During his career, Rahane made significant contributions to Team India.
Rahane is best remembered for leading India to a historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory in Australia during the 2020-21 series as the stand-in captain. Having represented India in more than 100 international matches, he was also regarded as one of the team’s finest slip fielders.
Following his retirement, Rahane will receive a special benefit from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the form of a monthly pension.
In 2022, the BCCI revised its pension structure for retired cricketers. Rahane, who has played 85 Test matches for India, is eligible to receive the enhanced pension. Earlier, Indian cricketers who had played more than 25 Test matches were entitled to a monthly pension of Rs 50,000. Four years ago, this amount was revised to Rs 70,000 per month.
As a result, Rahane will now receive a fixed monthly pension of Rs 70,000. The decision to revise the pension amount was announced when Sourav Ganguly was serving as the BCCI President.
Rahane represented India in 85 Tests, 90 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 20 T20 Internationals (T20Is). While he has not yet confirmed what his next chapter will be after retirement, he has indicated that he looks forward to mentoring and guiding the next generation of cricketers.
