Jana Nayagan Box Office Day 9 (Early Trend): Vijay’s Film Loses Grip Before 2nd Weekend; Will It Touch 160cr?

Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan, which was one of the most anticipated releases of the year, has been struggling as it entered the second week. Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is a political action drama which was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. The movie also featured Pooja Hegde, Priyamani, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Mamitha Baiju, Nassar, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain. Marking Thalapathy Vijay’s first collaboration with H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan witnessed a strong start at the box office.

 

To note, Jana Nayagan has been creating waves in the industry ever since it was announced as it marked Thalapathy Vijay last appearance on the big screen. Yes! The megastar has quit acting after ruling millions of hearts for almost 34 years and has joined politics emerging as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Needless to say, it has been a bitter sweet experience for his massive fan following. And while Jana Nayagan recorded a phenomenal start at the domestic box office, it has been witnessing a continuous dip post the opening weekend. In fact, Thalapathy Vijay’s swansong has been struggling at the box office in the second week.

According to a report published in Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan recorded a low footfall of 30% today day 9/ second Friday) during the evening shows.

Given the trend, Jana Nayagan witnessed a slow trend at the box office and the movie failed to touch 3cr until 9pm. In fact, as per Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan earned Rs 2.28cr (Rs 2.07cr in Tamil and Rs 21 lakhs in Hindi) taking the overall collection to Rs 155.83cr. It is evident that the movie will fail to touch Rs 160cr ahead of the second weekend.

Meanwhile, director H Vinoth is all praises for Thalapathy Vijay who is now the CM of Tamil Nadu and told NDTV, “He has very good intentions. When he speaks about social and political issues like women’s empowerment, women’s safety, and corruption, he genuinely believes in what he is saying and wants to do good for the people”.
