His father Venkatratnam was a linguist and the mother’s name is Vishalakshi. Taking inspiration from Adi Shankaracharya, the father named Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. It is said that at the age of only four, Sri Sri used to lecture Bhagwat Gita in Sanskrit. Along with being spiritual knowledge, he studied Vedic literature and physics. In the 1970s, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar learned Bhavatit meditation from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and became his disciple. He gained knowledge from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the Guru disciple tradition and then in the year 1981, established the Art of Living Foundation and started spreading it worldwide.
