A Bengaluru software engineer tragically died after receiving an electric shock while river rafting in the Kali River, Uttara Kannada. The incident is reportedly linked to a resort water pump leak causing current in the water.
A weekend adventure trip turned into a horrific tragedy in Uttara Kannada, a district famous for its natural beauty and adventure sports. A software engineer from Bengaluru died from electrocution while river rafting in the famous Kali River near Ganeshgudi in Joida taluk. People are furious, saying the resort’s complete carelessness is the direct cause of this death.
Techie from Vijayawada dies
The deceased has been identified as Mahesh (27), who was originally from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. Mahesh, who worked as a software engineer in a private company in Bengaluru, had come for a weekend trip to Uttara Kannada with four of his friends. The group of five IT professionals was staying at the Silver Bill Resort in Ganeshgudi and had decided to go rafting there.
Extreme negligence by the resort!
It is reported that the Silver Bill Resort had installed a large water pump right in the main area where tourists go for river rafting. A short circuit in the pump’s wiring caused electricity to flow into the surrounding water. While rafting, Mahesh accidentally got too close to this pump. As a result, he received a severe electric shock and couldn’t get back, dying on the spot.
Mahesh’s four friends, who were with him, also felt the electric shock but were lucky enough to escape with their lives. Villagers say they had warned the resort owners several times not to install such a dangerous pump in a sensitive rafting area, but their warnings were ignored.
Case filed at Ramnagar Police Station
As soon as the incident happened, locals and security staff tried to rescue Mahesh, but it was too late. The police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. A case regarding this terrible accident has been registered at the Ramnagar Police Station in Uttara Kannada district. The police are preparing to take strict action against the resort management for their negligence. There is widespread public anger over resorts playing with tourists’ lives in the name of adventure sports.
