The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Thursday announced that the Brazil senior men’s national team will play an international friendly against India in Kolkata on October 3.
Brazil, five-time world champions, is the most successful men’s national team in football. According to an AIFF press release, India will host the Seleção at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan in what will be one of the biggest matches in Indian football history.
This will be the highest-ranked opponent for India since the FIFA World Rankings began in 1992, as Brazil is currently ranked fifth. Brazil’s legacy has inspired generations of footballers around the world, including millions of passionate supporters in India. India is known for having one of the largest Brazilian fan bases outside Brazil.
AIFF called it a historic moment
AIFF Deputy Secretary General M. Satyanarayana said, “Welcoming a team of Brazil’s stature to our country is an extraordinary moment and will undoubtedly become a milestone chapter in the history of Indian football.”
Director of National Teams Subrata Paul said, “For our national team players, this is more than just another match. This is a rare opportunity to test themselves against one of the greatest football nations in the history of the game. Experiences like this challenge players to grow, inspire them to dream bigger, and leave memories that will stay with them throughout their careers.”
Brazilian Football Federation also confirmed
In a post on X, the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) also announced the development. Calling it a historic occasion, the CBF said it was excited to be associated with India, which it said is home to the Brazilian national team’s largest international fan base.
CBF said, “From Australia to India. The schedule of the Brazilian national team continues. After the friendly matches in Australia, our next destination will be India, where we will write an unprecedented chapter in our history. On October 3, the national team will take the field for the first time on Indian soil, at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. It will be a special encounter with the country that hosts the largest international fan base of the Brazilian national team and which has loved the history of Brazilian football for generations with immense affection and passion. Follow along. We look forward to living this moment with millions of Indian fans!
Brazil will also play against Australia
In another post, CBF announced its September FIFA international window schedule, confirming two friendlies against Australia in Queensland. Brazil will face Australia on September 25 in Townsville and September 29 in Brisbane as part of the Queensland Football Series 2026.
CBF said, “These matches are part of the Queensland Football Series 2026 and mark the reunion of the Brazilian national team with the Australian public in another important international commitment. See you soon, Australia.” (ANI)
