LIC transfers Rs 12,207 crore dividend to centre; finance minister Sitharaman receives cheque

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Wednesday handed over a dividend cheque of Rs 12,207.25 crore to the Government of India.

The cheque was presented by R. Doraiswamy, CEO and Managing Director of LIC, to Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The amount represents the Government of India’s share of the dividend approved by LIC shareholders during the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on July 27, 2026.

The cheque presentation ceremony was attended by Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, along with senior LIC officials, including Managing Directors Ratnakar Patnaik and R. Chander, and N.S. Raghava, Zonal Manager (In-Charge), Northern Zone.

In a statement, LIC said it is completing 70 years since its incorporation and continues to maintain its leadership position in the Indian life insurance market.

As of March 31, 2026, LIC’s total asset base stood at Rs 59.03 lakh crore, making it one of the country’s largest financial institutions.

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) shares closed at Rs 423.30 on the NSE on July 29, down 0.90% or Rs 3.85 for the day. The stock opened at Rs 427.15 and touched an intraday high of Rs 427.65 and a low of Rs 423.10. LIC has a market capitalisation of Rs 2.68 lakh crore and is trading at a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 9.32. The stock has a 52-week high of Rs 468.48 and a 52-week low of Rs 360.75. It offers a dividend yield of 2.36%, with the latest quarterly dividend amounting to Rs 2.50 per share. At 1:10 pm IST, the stock was trading at Rs 423.80.

LIC Final Dividend Of Rs 10 For FY2025-26

The board of LIC has recommended a final dividend of Rs 10 per equity share with a face value of Rs 10 each for the financial year ended March 2026.

The insurance major has fixed June 25, 2026, as the record date for its proposed final dividend of Rs 10 per equity share.

LIC’s first bonus issue

The dividend announcement follows a major corporate action undertaken by LIC earlier this year.

In June 2026, the insurer completed its maiden bonus share issue in a 1:1 ratio, granting one bonus share for every share held by existing shareholders.

The move increased the number of shares held by investors and marked the first such exercise since LIC’s stock market debut.

LIC Q4FY26 result highlights

Life Insurance Corporation of India reported its Q4 FY26 results on Thursday, posting a consolidated net profit of Rs 23,420 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, compared to Rs 19,013 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Net premium income for the quarter stood at Rs 1.7 lakh crore, up 11.6 per cent from Rs 1.5 lakh crore reported in the year-ago period.

The company’s solvency ratio came in at 2.35 per cent, compared to 2.11 per cent in the corresponding period last year and 2.19 per cent in the December quarter.

LIC reported improvement in asset quality during the quarter, with gross non-performing assets (GNPA) declining to 1.21 per cent from 1.31 per cent reported in the previous quarter.

The 13th month persistency ratio stood at 67.77 per cent, compared to 68.62 per cent a year ago and 69.36 per cent in the preceding quarter.
