BCCI office-bearers to be finalised in next two days as top brass schedules high-level meet

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to finalise on the next set of its office-bearers in the next two days in national capital Delhi. Ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is set to take place at the headquarters in Mumbai on September 28, a meeting between the top brass and ruling BJP members has been scheduled for September 20, mentions a report on Cricbuzz.

The report further mentions that September 28 will be the day when the Indian cricket board will make a formal announcement but the key decisions along with finalising the name for the presidential candidate will be finalised on Saturday. As per the report, the informal meeting is set to take place at the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah where the final decisions are expected to be taken.

Ganguly, Harbhajan in fray

It was similar sort of a meet three years back in 2022 when former president N Srinivasan had lashed out at then BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly over his performance as the head in the last 3 years from 2019. The meeting concluded with choosing former Indian player Roger Binny for the top post. It remains to be seen whether Ganguly would be invited to the meeting again but as per the speculations rife in the media circle, he is being linked to the top post.

One of India’s top spinners and Ganguly’s teammate Harbhajan Singh is also in the fray to be picked up as one of the office-bearers if not the president. Talks have also been about Karnataka’s Raghuram Bhatt, a former Indian Test cricketer and former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More. Though More’s name does not feature in the list of state association representatives who can contest the elections but there remains a provision to change the list.

With the release of final electoral roll on September 19, the state associations have the option of changing their nominees in the next 24 hours.
