Posting on Instagram, Shah congratulated Gulveer for winning India’s first Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000 meters event and said his historic achievement will inspire young athletes. Shah wrote, “Congratulations to Gulveer Singh for setting an extraordinary milestone by winning India’s first medal in the Commonwealth Games 10000m event with a silver medal. The Army athlete clocked 27:49.78 and remained with the lead pack throughout, then produced a spectacular sprint in the final lap to finish behind Australia’s Kai Robinson. His silver medal ended India’s long wait for a medal in the event, marking the country’s first podium finish in the men’s 10,000 meters at the Commonwealth Games.

Harjinder Kaur opened India’s account on the sixth day with a silver medal in the women’s 69 kg weightlifting event. The Punjab lifter lifted her personal best total of 227 kg, which included 101 kg in snatch and 126 kg in clean and jerk, finishing behind Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau. Harjinder put in a memorable performance by breaking the Commonwealth Games snatch record twice and ultimately bettering the bronze medal she won at the Birmingham 2022 Games. (ANI)
