Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home is poised to be one of the biggest opening weekends in cinema history, underscoring the ongoing fascination with Marvel’s legendary web-slinger at a time when other superhero franchises are finding it hard to match their past success. Industry estimates for Spider-Man: Brand New Day are between $260 million and $280 million in North America alone for its opening weekend. Some analysts think the movie might even cross $300 million, which would put it in very rarified air. If those estimates hold, the film would be in the running for some of the biggest domestic openings ever recorded. Only a few films, including Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avengers: Infinity War, have exceeded $250 million in their opening weekends.
The conversation around superhero movies has changed quite a bit in the last few years. Comic-book movies, once thought unbeatable at the worldwide box office, have come under increasing scrutiny for franchise fatigue, waning audience interest, and uneven financial results. Spider-Man, however, is one hero who seems completely immune to this trend.

Spider-Man to rule box office
Expectations are just as high globally. We expect international revenue to be between $275 million and $300 million, with China rebounding as a major market after Spider-Man: No Way Home didn’t get a theatrical release there.
Why No Way Home’s success still matters
Much of the buzz around is the unresolved ending of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, where we saw Peter Parker make the heartbreaking decision to erase himself from everyone’s memories to save the multiverse. Consequently, his best friends, MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), no longer know who he is.
Audiences have waited years for the emotional cliffhanger to be resolved, to see how Peter rebuilds his life. That makes Brand New Day one of the most eagerly awaited Marvel sequels.

Spider-Man is still Marvel’s safest bet
Despite some mixed results for Marvel Studios with a number of recent releases, Spider-Man remains a standout. The Tom Holland-led trilogy has gotten better with each outing. While Spider-Man: Homecoming took in almost $880 million globally, Far From Home has grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. Meanwhile, No Way Home has amassed nearly $1.9 billion globally despite not being released in China.
Some of the recent Marvel projects have focused on newer or lesser-known heroes, but Spider-Man continues to draw both die-hard Marvel fans and casual moviegoers alike.

Why Spider-Man refuses to wear out
Audiences aren’t necessarily tired of superheroes, industry analysts say, they’re just getting pickier. Many of the recent Marvel movies have very interconnected plots that require the viewer to watch multiple Disney+ shows and previous movies to fully understand what is going on. But Spider-Man’s appeal is something else.
Peter Parker is still one of the most relatable superheroes ever created. Beneath the suit is an ordinary young man, juggling friendships, relationships, financial woes, and personal responsibility with extraordinary powers. That combination continues to resonate across generations.
Analysts also note that Spider-Man stories tend to have a more emotional core than larger ensemble superhero spectacles.

Premium release despite IMAX competition
A major issue for Brand New Day is the lack of IMAX screens. IMAX theatres during that same period will be showing Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, so Spider-Man will have to settle for other premium large-format screens. Even so, demand has been extremely high. Many theatre chains have confirmed that booking showings every 15 minutes over opening weekend to cope with advance bookings.

What is Marvel up to next
Brand New Day is also a huge step towards Marvel Studios’ next big crossover event, which is slated for release later this year. After a series of uneven performances by films like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it appears Marvel is once again relying on its most recognisable heroes to revive audience enthusiasm.
Also on the horizon are Avengers: Secret Wars, Black Panther 3, an X-Men reboot that has been planned and a Ghost Rider film that was just announced with Ryan Gosling at the San Diego Comic Con.

Spider-Man’s popularity across reboots
Spider-Man is one of the few characters in modern cinema with staying power. Through multiple generations, different iterations of Peter Parker have delighted fans – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland – but the character keeps evolving, not without the qualities that made him iconic.
If the current projections hold true, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be one of the biggest films of 2026, if not THE biggest.
