Marco Sequel In Works Without Unni Mukundan? Netizens Suggest Names For Leading Actor

Malayalam action movie Marco, helmed by Haneef Adeni, starred Unni Mukundan in the lead role. Marco became a box office phenomenon and one of Malayalam cinema’s most talked-about releases of 2024. It was a spin-off of Unni Mukundan’s gangster character from the 2019 movie Mikhael.

Marco gained a massive following for its raw and brutal action scenes and intense storytelling. The overwhelming craze among audiences cemented its position as a blockbuster and made it the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film of all time. Marco was called the most violent movie made in the history of Indian cinema, and there were reports of audience throwing up in theatre halls due to its gruesome scenes. It seems there is some good news for the Marco fans.

Marco is reportedly getting a sequel titled Lord Marco. On Wednesday, trade analyst AB George shared a picture on X (Twitter), which revealed that a sequel to Marco is in the works, as there were official papers where the makers Cubes Entertainment registered the name of the sequel to the film as ‘Lord Marco.’ Director Haneef Adeni’s name was also visible on the documents. What caught netizens’ attention was the absence of the leading actor’s name. This sparked a heated discussion online, as fans suggested who could play the main role in the upcoming sequel.

Twitterheads quickly took to their X handles to share their suggestions. One person wrote, “Marco is tailor made role for UM. Maybe Tovino can justify a bit.” Another person simply commented, “Madhav suresh.” A third person shared, “Prithvi was contacted I heard if not then Yash or Hritik.” Another person wrote, “Tovino Or Prithviraj.” Clearly expressing love for the South actor, one person stated, “One & only Dhyan Sreenivasan.” A fan suggested “Yash” to be the leading hero of the sequel.

Interestingly, the absence of Unni’s name also supported his statement of not being interested in continuing the Marco series. Earlier in June this year, the actor shared a video showing his weight loss transformation. Under his comments section, a fan asked him about Marco 2, to which the actor replied, “Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers.”

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Unni Mukundan has been gearing up to star in an esteemed project. On Wednesday, it was announced that the Malayalam actor will star in PM Narendra Modi’s biopic titled Maa Vande, which will trace his life’s journey from childhood to becoming a politician. The actor shared the great news with his fans and posted the poster of the biopic on his Instagram handle.
