Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: Amid the investigation into the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led student protest on July 20, the Delhi police have revealed that several criminals had also participated in the march to parliament.
As per a detailed report submitted by Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to the home ministry, several habitual criminals were involved in the violence that took place during the march.
20 Teams Formed
As per the investigation report, 20 teams have been formed to arrest 989 individuals with past criminal records and were detected through CCTV cameras and facial recognition technology (FRS). The report suggests that these individuals are accused of serious crimes, including murder, robbery, rape, and drug trafficking.
While providing details, a senior Delhi Police official stated that the organizers were only allowed to hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. The official further stated that there was no permission for a march to Parliament.
The protesters were not given permission to march, but they breached the security barricades and approached parliament despite several warnings. The officials stated that the police used force after some protesters began throwing stones and vandalized government vehicles.
Security Personnel Attacked
The report clarified that 240 personnel, including more than 35 senior police officers, were injured in the attack by the miscreants. The report further stated that the police maintained restraint for a long time despite continuous attacks from the miscreants.
The police have identified the individuals with the help of modern CCTV cameras, FRS, and video footage made by the public. They are accused of attacking the officials and vandalizing the government properties during the march towards the parliament.
The officials further stated that several such individuals have been identified, adding that a detailed probe has been launched for further details. The opposition parties have accused the security forces of using excessive force against the protesters on July 20.
