Correspondent, Dalhousie: Five members of a family including a one-year-old child, died in a horrific road accident near Lahad village on the Pathankot-Bharmaur National Highway in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district late Monday night.
The family was returning home from Chandigarh after their child’s treatment when they met with the accident. The car lost control and fell into a deep ditch, killing all five occupants on the spot. Police and administration teams rushed to the scene as soon as they received information about the accident.
Due to continuous heavy rain and the blockage of the National Highway near Banikhet, rescue teams had a difficult time reaching the spot. With the help of local people and the administration, the bodies were recovered.
According to the police, the deceased in the accident have been identified as Bachan Singh, Ripan Kumar, Rimpi, Kirti, and a one-year-old child.
The police have taken the bodies into custody and begun the post-mortem process. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. This heartbreaking accident has sent shockwaves through the entire Chamba district. The loss of five lives in a single moment has left the area in a state of mourning.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani said that a vehicle had crashed in the Lahar area. Five people have been confirmed dead in the accident. Police and administration teams are at the scene engaged in relief and rescue operations. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
