Ravindra Jadeja returns, Saransh Jain earns maiden India Test call-up for Sri Lanka series

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has returned to India’s Test squad, while Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain received his maiden national call-up for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad, with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and top-order batter B Sai Sudharsan included subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.

Spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar was unavailable for selection for the opening Test after sustaining an injury during India’s white-ball tour of England earlier this month.

His absence paved the way for Saransh Jain, who impressed during India A’s recent tour of Sri Lanka. The 33-year-old scored an unbeaten 70 and claimed six wickets in the second unofficial Test. Across his First-Class career, Jain has amassed more than 2,200 runs, including two centuries, and taken 188 wickets.

India head into the series after a dominant innings-and-300-run victory over Afghanistan in New Chandigarh last month in a Test played outside the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Led by Shubman Gill, India wrapped up the match inside three days to record their biggest-ever innings win in Test cricket.

Currently fifth in the WTC standings, India have won four of their nine Tests in the ongoing cycle. The Sri Lanka tour marks the start of a crucial stretch, with India scheduled to play nine more Tests before March 2027.

India also carry an impressive record into the series, having remained unbeaten in Sri Lanka since 2010. Their previous Test tour of the island in 2017 ended in a comprehensive 3-0 series sweep.
