Tejashwi Yadav cornered the Samrat Chaudhary government over the arrest of students in the NEET-UG paper leak case. He warned that if the cases against the students were not withdrawn and they were not released, RJD would launch a major agitation across the state.
Patna (Bihar) [भारत]July 28 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the Samrat Chaudhary-led government over the arrest of students in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak protests. He alleged that the ruling government was attempting to turn Bihar into a “police-ruled state”. Addressing a press conference on Monday, the RJD national working president announced that if Samrat Chaudhary does not withdraw the cases against the protesting students, the party will launch a major statewide agitation for their release.
Yadav said, “The present NDA government and Samrat Choudhary are trying to make Bihar a kingdom of police-backed goons. The central government was forced to bow down to the students on the NEET paper leak issue. Yet, even after a resolution was reached, hundreds of students in Bihar were arrested on the orders of Samrat Choudhary. Not only were they lathicharged, but for the first time in the history of the country, bullets were fired from AK-47s during a protest. These bullets were not fired in the air. In fact, chests of innocent people who were simply protesting on the streets for justice and their rights were riddled with bullets… We will not tolerate such a situation in Bihar where criminals are protected and students have to face bullets and jail. Yesterday I had clearly said that if Samrat Choudhary does not withdraw the cases against the students by this evening or night and does not release them from jail, we will start a big movement… When our government was in power, no paper was leaked and 5 lakhs Jobs were given…”
Questions raised on Samrat Chaudhary’s tenure of 100 days
Apart from this, Tejashwi Yadav criticized the governance of the BJP-led Bihar government, alleging that Samrat Choudhary has not done any work for the state, he keeps himself under security cover and is building luxurious houses in the state. Yadav said, “It has been 100 days since Samrat Chaudhary assumed office. What work has he done? Name just one achievement. He has done nothing except keeping himself under security cover and building a luxurious house. His wife is campaigning in Munger without any official post or protocol. The convoy accompanying his wife in Munger was bigger than that of the Chief Ministers of many states, in which DMs and SPs were engaged in his security…”
There was a clash between students and police in Siwan
The comments came after clashes broke out between student protesters and police personnel in Bihar’s Siwan on Saturday during protests over alleged exam irregularities and the NEET paper leak controversy. Following reports of stone pelting, police used tear gas shells and lathicharge to disperse the protesters. An incident of AK-47 firing was also reported during the unrest.
Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha told ANI on Monday that action has been taken against police personnel who were seen firing with AK-47s during the student protests.
Following the incident, Yadav met injured protesters from Siwan at Medanta Hospital and demanded action against the police personnel allegedly involved in the firing. Yadav said, “The student injured by the police bullet is meeting his fellow protesters to inquire about their well-being. In a democracy, peaceful protest is an essential right that allows citizens to express their dissent and views, thereby holding the unchecked power accountable. The Bihar government should take immediate action against the police personnel who opened fire on the students.” (ANI)
