Parliamant Monsoon Session: The monsoon session of the parliament, after days of ruckus and adjournments, is likely to be back on track to discuss the key bills.
The opposition MPs had been protesting over the NEET paper leak and the alleged excessive use of force against the protesting students. However, the reports suggest that they have agreed to participate in the discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
As per the reports, the opposition MPs agreed to participate in the discussion after Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held discussions with senior leaders from all the parties. With the reports suggesting an agreement, the parliament is likely to function normally for the first time since the monsoon session began on July 20.
Reason Behind Deadlock
The opposition had earlier demanded the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for the NEET paper leak. However, upon his resignation, the opposition insisted on a public apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah due to the alleged use of excessive force against the protesting students.
The opposition MPs also demanded a detailed discussion on the issue and asked for the withdrawal of the cases against the protesters.
Om Birla’s Talks With Oppn
Earlier on Monday, Om Birla reportedly told the opposition MPs that the matter concerns the future of the youth, further suggesting they participate in the discussion. He assured all parties that the government is prepared to hold discussions for more than six hours and that the opposition would be given ample opportunity to present its views in detail.
What Is New Amendment Bill?
Under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, stricter laws have been proposed to curb the cases of paper leaks. As per the proposals, the maximum imprisonment and fine have been significantly increased for those involved in the paper leaks.
