According to police sources, with the help of hundreds of GB of CCTV footage and facial recognition technology, so far 2,873 people who already have criminal records have been identified. Of these, cases have been registered against 989 people in serious cases like murder, attempt to murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, POCSO and Arms Act. However, all these figures are claims of Delhi Police sources and have not been independently confirmed.
What happened at Jantar Mantar?
On July 20 and 22, during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ protest over the NEET paper leak issue, there were clashes at several places between police and protesters in Jantar Mantar and surrounding areas. According to Delhi Police, the protesters broke barricades, pelted stones at policemen, damaged government and private property and vandalized vehicles at many places. Now the police is continuously scanning the CCTV footage to investigate these incidents.
What did you get from CCTV and facial recognition?
According to sources, around 100 CCTV video clips were analyzed during the investigation. Among these, many such faces came to light, whose records were already available with the police. So far, 2,873 people have been identified with the help of facial recognition system, out of which a large number are said to be people who already have criminal cases registered against them. Delhi Police claims that around 200 policemen were injured in these incidents. In several videos, injured policemen were also seen being removed from the spot.

According to the data revealed in the investigation, out of 101 accused of murder, 42 people have two or more murder cases registered against them. At the same time, police sources have also said that 10 or more murder cases have been registered against 12 accused. Apart from this, more than one case is said to have been registered against some accused named in rape cases.

Objectionable comments also under investigation
According to sources, objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Parliament and Delhi Police have also been recorded in some videos during the protest. These clips have been preserved separately and are being analyzed for further legal action.
Why was there a demonstration at Jantar Mantar?
This demonstration was done regarding the NEET paper leak controversy. The main demand of the protesters was the resignation of the then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstration was called off after his resignation. However, after the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march held on July 20, several FIRs were registered across the country. The organization leading the protest claimed that the government has agreed to withdraw these FIRs.

Delhi Police says that the investigation is being carried forward on the basis of CCTV footage, digital evidence and other technical evidence. It is expected that more people will be identified in this case in the coming days and further action will be taken.
