Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has released the notification of apprentice recruitment for the year 2026-27.
A total of 1110 apprentice posts will be filled through this recruitment drive. The most special thing about this recruitment is that the candidates will not have to give any written examination. The selection process will be based on the merit list prepared according to academic performance, followed by document verification.
Vacancies available under SAIL Rourkela Apprentice Recruitment
A total of 1110 apprentice vacancies will be filled under this recruitment campaign. The vacancies are divided into three categories:
Trade Apprentice: 421 Posts
Diploma (Technician) Apprentice: 414 Posts
Graduate Apprentice: 275 Posts
Selected candidates will undergo one year apprenticeship training program at Rourkela Steel Plant.
Eligibility Criteria: Who can apply?
Candidates applying for these apprentice posts must have done ITI, Diploma, Engineering Degree or Graduation from a recognized institution in the relevant field.
Only those candidates will be eligible to apply who have completed their required qualifications in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026.
The required qualifications are:
Trade Apprentice: ITI Certificate in relevant trade.
Diploma Apprentice: Diploma in relevant engineering discipline.
Graduate Apprentice: Graduate degree in relevant engineering or non-engineering stream.
Candidates who have already completed apprenticeship training in any organization or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training will not be eligible. Applicants who have work experience of one year or more will also not be considered for this recruitment.

The online application process started on 17th July 2026, and candidates who are interested can submit their applications till 26th August 2026.

As on 31st August 2026, the age of the applicant should be:
Minimum age: 18 years
Maximum age: 28 years
As per government rules, reserved category candidates will be given relaxation in upper age limit.
Selection Process: Recruitment without written examination
No written examination will be conducted for this apprentice recruitment. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their academic records.
The merit list will be prepared using the following weightage:
Class 10 Marks: 30% Weightage
Marks of ITI/Diploma/Degree: 70% weightage
Shortlisted candidates from the merit list will be called to Rourkela for document verification. Final selection will depend on successful verification of documents and availability of vacancy.
