Heavy rain lashed Delhi-NCR on Wednesday evening at around 7 pm. The India Metereological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert across the region for the next two hours.
According to the latest update from the IMD, eastward-moving cloud clusters are expected to cause moderate rainfall in most areas , with isolated pockets witnessing heavy downpours in the next two hours. Light to moderate rainfall is already underway in the eastern parts of Delhi , and conditions are expected to intensify.

Another visual shared by news agency ANI shows waterlogging on GRG Road in Delhi, shortly after the rain.
Visuals from Kartavya path show people taking shelter at the bus stop after sudden rainfall.
The IMD has outlined several consequences expected from the ongoing and impending heavy rain:
– There is a high possibility of localised flooding on roads and waterlogging in low-lying urban areas, particularly in parts of Delhi-NCR.
– Underpasses in vulnerable locations may be temporarily closed due to flooding.
– Heavy rainfall could cause occasional reductions in visibility, especially for motorists.
– Traffic movement may be disrupted in some areas due to waterlogged roads, resulting in longer travel times.
– Slippery roads, coupled with poor visibility, may increase the risk of accidents and add to traffic congestion.
– Outdoor business operations and routine activities are likely to be significantly affected.
– The heavy rain spell could damage plantations, horticultural assets, and standing crops.
– Vulnerable structures, including temporary housing and weak walls, may sustain partial damage.
Further, the IMD has urged residents to follow all traffic advisories issued by local authorities and avoid commuting unless absolutely necessary.
People should stay indoors, ensure that all windows and doors are securely closed, and seek safe shelter until the weather improves. Taking shelter under trees during heavy rain is strongly discouraged, as it poses a risk of injury.
