Anurag Basu’s highly touted film Metro In Dino received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike on its opening. But the buzz so far hasn’t translated into good box office numbers. Starring Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Ali Fazal, the starry cast’s ensemble drama hit screens on July 4.
Decent Weekend But Steep Fall
The movie started its theatrical run with a soft opening of ₹3.5 crore on Day 1. It recorded some positive momentum during the weekend, finishing Sunday with an estimated ₹20 crore total. But collections fell sharply on Monday, indicating weak weekday traction.
To counter the dip, producers brought out a special discounted ticket deal on Tuesday (July 8), charging tickets at a mere ₹99. The step saw some rushmee while the film earned only ₹2.9 crore on the day, taking the five-day figure to ₹22.15 crore.
Trade Experts See Bleak Result
Trade analyst Sumit Kadel described the film’s performance as “dismal” and posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Metro In Dino is expected to end its first week with ₹23.5–24 crore nett. With a budget reportedly of ₹100 crore (including prints and advertising), the film must gross at least ₹65 crore nett from its Indian run to break even — something that now seems more and more unlikely.
