Sunday Fast for Surya Dev: In Hindu religion, every day is dedicated to some deity or the other. Sunday has been dedicated to Lord Sun. Lord Surya is worshiped with rituals on Sunday. Arghya is offered to him. Along with worship, a fast is also observed for Sun God on this day. There is a religious belief that on fasting and worshiping on Sunday, Sun God becomes pleased and bestows blessings of health and success. The rules for worshiping Sun God and fasting are explained in Hindu religious scriptures and Puranas. According to the rules, the fast of Sun God can be observed for 12 and 30 Sundays. If you want, you can also take a pledge to fast for 12 Sundays or even 30 fasts. Apart from this, you can also take a pledge to observe the fast of Sun God on all the Sundays falling for a year.
Sunday fasting rules
On Sunday morning, after bathing, take a pledge to worship Sun God by wearing clean clothes. Offer water i.e. Arghya to the Sun at the time of sunrise. Mix red sandalwood, red flowers and sesame seeds in water. Chant the mantras of Lord Surya. Recite Aditya Hridaya Stotra. Keep fast the whole day. During this time, satvik food can be eaten without salt. Do not consume tamasic food like onion, garlic, meat, alcohol.
Speak the truth throughout the day, avoid anger and keep the mind pure. Follow celibacy. Donate items related to Sun like copper, wheat, red clothes or jaggery. Salute the Sun and light a lamp even at the time of sunset. Break the fast by offering Arghya at sunrise on Monday.
Importance of Sunday fasting
According to Hindu religious beliefs, observing fast on Sunday brings special blessings of Sun God. Health, fame and confidence increases. Diseases and defects disappear. There is an increase in luck and wealth. Sunday fast is considered best for protection from property and enemies. By fasting on Sunday, the position of Sun God in the horoscope becomes auspicious and strong.
