Congress leader Pawan Kheda targeted the Center over police brutality during student protests against paper leak. Alleging the use of AK-47 in Bihar, he demanded Home Minister Amit Shah to give a statement in Parliament and fix accountability.
New Delhi [भारत]July 27 (ANI): Congress leader Pawan Khera on Monday hit out at the central government over the way it handled the student protests across the country over the exam paper leak. Addressing the media in New Delhi, Khera criticized the Center for refusing to discuss police action against youth protesters. Pointing to the firing in Bihar’s Siwan, where AK-47s were allegedly used against students, Khera said the opposition is demanding that Home Minister Amit Shah personally answer in the Rajya Sabha.
He said the deadlock in Parliament is because the administration is refusing to talk about the students’ issues raised by the opposition.
Opposition demands- Home Minister should answer in Parliament
Khera said, “We once again tried to raise our voice in the Rajya Sabha against the brutal attacks on youth across the country, which continue even today. Even today, AK-47s were used in Bihar.”
Highlighting the demand of the opposition, Kheda said that the Home Minister should come to Parliament and answer the issues raised by the students. He alleged that the government is not listening to his voice. He said, “Our demand is very clear: the Home Minister should come to the House and give a statement. The voice of the students, which is being raised through the opposition, should be heard. But the government is not listening. That is why Parliament could not function again.”
Khera claimed that the opposition has received reports of police brutality against youth from several states including West Bengal and Bihar. Kheda further said, “Our demand remains the same. The attack that started on the 20th is continuing across the country even today. We are getting reports from West Bengal, Bihar and many other states that the police are using extreme brutality against the youth.”
He said, “The youth of the country want answers. The Home Minister should be held accountable.”
Rahul Gandhi also raised the issue of Siwan
Referring to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s social media post, Khera said, “We have also said the same. Rahul ji also tweeted about this this morning and posted on social media, saying that the way AK-47 was used in Siwan, it was never seen before in this country.”
He said that the Home Minister should come to the House and give a statement and apologise. “The responsibility lies with the government. The government should find a solution. The way forward is clear: the home minister should come to the House, make a statement, apologize and make it clear who will take responsibility for the use of pellet guns,” he said.
Kheda said, “Parliament is facing many issues one after the other. But the primary issue at this time is the police action and the continuous attacks on the youth.” (ANI)
