IMD Weather Update: On the last day of May i.e. 31 May 2026, the weather pattern is going to show different pictures in different parts of the country. According to the forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on May 31, 2026, there will be a possibility of clouds, thunderstorms and light rain in many areas of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, while the effect of heat will still remain in many cities of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Although the intensity of the heatwave seems to be decreasing compared to the previous days, the temperature in many cities is still going to be around 40 degrees Celsius.

According to the forecast of May 31, the maximum heat is likely to be recorded in Raipur and Durg of Chhattisgarh, where the maximum temperature can reach 43 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, the temperature is expected to be 38°C in Bhopal, 39°C in Indore, 40°C in Ujjain and 40°C in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Banda in Uttar Pradesh may reach 41°C and Arrah in Bihar may reach 39°C. In such a situation, the heat pressure in Central India has not completely ended yet.

The maximum temperature in the national capital Delhi on May 31 is expected to be 36°C and minimum 23°C. The sky will be cloudy and there will be a possibility of rain with thunder. After the recent heavy storm and rain, the effect of heat wave in the capital has weakened considerably. People may feel humid but there are signs of relief from the scorching heat.
Where is the rain, where is the heat in UP?
The weather is going to be relatively pleasant in most of the cities of Uttar Pradesh. The temperature is expected to be 34°C in Lucknow, 38°C in Kanpur, 36°C in Agra, 38°C in Prayagraj and 37°C in Varanasi. There is a possibility of rain with thunder in Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Agra. There is a possibility of lightning and winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 km per hour in many areas. However, there is no danger of widespread heatwave at present.
Bihar and Jharkhand: Respiteful weather amid clouds
The maximum temperature is likely to be 34°C in Patna, 39°C in Arrah, 40°C in Buxar and 38°C in Aurangabad. Partial clouds and light rain or thunderstorm conditions may occur in many districts. Talking about Jharkhand, the temperature is expected to be 33°C in Ranchi and 37°C in Chatra and Daltonganj. The weather will be active with thunderstorms and strong winds in most parts of the state. There is a possibility of a yellow alert-like thunderstorm in some areas.

Heat still continues in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh
In Madhya Pradesh, the temperature in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain and Jabalpur may remain between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of clouds and thunderstorms in many cities, but the heat will not end completely. Raipur and Durg will be the hottest in Chhattisgarh. The maximum temperature here can reach 43°C. However, there is a possibility of thunder and light rain in some areas, which may provide relief in the evening.
Where is the situation like yellow and orange alert?
According to the IMD forecast, there is a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and winds with a speed of 40-50 km per hour in Delhi, Jharkhand, eastern UP and parts of Bihar on May 31. Thunderstorm activities can also be seen in some areas of Central India. People have been advised to stay away from open fields, trees and electric poles.
How much will the mercury rise in the coming days?
Between June 1 and June 2, the temperature in Delhi may again reach around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. There are indications of heat rising to 41-42°C in Arrah and Buxar of Bihar. The mercury may also gradually rise in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. However, intermittent pre-monsoon systems can prevent temperatures from rising too much.
