A 26-year-old man from Bengaluru told on Reddit that despite earning ₹2 lakh per month and good savings, he feels poor. People gave him some interesting advice on the post.
The Reddit post of a 26-year-old youth from Bengaluru has become a topic of discussion on social media these days. The young man told that he earns around ₹ 2 lakh every month, he does not have any kind of loan, yet he always feels that he is poor. He wrote that on paper his financial condition looks quite strong, but deep inside he is always worried about money. Even after achieving so much he does not feel satisfied.
Childhood spent in 10×10 room
The young man told that his childhood was spent in very ordinary economic circumstances. Until she got her first job at the age of 21, her family’s monthly income never exceeded ₹6,000 to ₹7,000. The entire family lived in a small 10×10 room. For this reason, he had decided in his childhood itself that the financial condition of the family had to change. After starting the job in 2021, the first thing she did was to ensure that her parents no longer had to work. She wrote in her post, “After I started earning, the first thing I did was to retire my parents from work. Now they live in a 2BHK house in our hometown and I live in my 2BHK rented house in Bengaluru.”
Pays attention to investment and savings every month
The young man told that he regularly invests a major part of his earnings in savings and investments. Every month he invests in these things.
- Invests ₹30,000 in mutual funds.
- Deposits ₹10,000 in FD or RD.
- Invests ₹10,000 in gold savings.
- Sends ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 to his parents.
- Spends around ₹25,000 on rent and other essential expenses.
- Good savings in stocks, FD, gold and bank balance
From 2021 till now he has invested in many places. According to him-
- Around ₹4 lakh in stocks
- ₹2 lakh in FD
- Around ₹2 to ₹2.5 lakh in gold
- About ₹ 6 lakh is deposited in the salary account.
Apart from this he has bought a scooter for himself. Have taken furniture and necessary household items for the parents’ house. Also bought a MacBook, smartphone, health insurance for parents and life insurance for myself.
Why do we feel poverty even after having everything?
The young man says that he is proud of his achievements, but he never felt rich. She is going to get married this year and she expects the wedding to cost around ₹10 lakh. Apart from this he wants to buy an old car, buy land in his hometown and is also thinking of buying a bike. He feels that he cannot fulfill all his desires at one time. Every new expense feels like compromising another dream.
Why are friends who earn less happy?
- The young man told that when he goes to his hometown, he is surprised to see his old friends. Many of his friends work as laborers or drive autos. Their earnings are much less than that, but they appear happier and more satisfied than that.
- He wrote, “It feels strange to feel poor despite earning so much at the age of 26. My friends work as laborers or drive autos. If they get an extra ₹1,000, they feel rich.”
- Many friends had taken loan and bought bikes like R15, MT or Pulsar. Despite being in debt, he continued to live his life freely.
- At the same time, he always tried to avoid taking loans. His financial savvy kept him from taking risks, but he now feels he also missed out on some life experiences.
There is hesitation even in buying expensive shirts
The young man admitted that even today he feels hesitant in buying a shirt costing more than ₹750. Although he hangs out with friends, sometimes goes on trips and even eats out, he always has concerns about spending money. He says that many people will envy his situation, but he himself is constantly struggling with the fear of financial security. That’s why he asked people on Reddit for financial and personal advice.
What did Reddit users recommend?
This post went viral in no time and thousands of people gave their opinion on it. Many users believed that his problem was not due to low earnings, but due to the ‘money mindset’ created by growing up in poverty. People said that the effects of childhood economic insecurity can last for a long time, no matter how much a person’s income increases later on.
‘Need to get out of old thinking’
One user wrote, “I don’t think you need to feel rich. What is needed is that you slowly get out of that old thinking, which is formed from childhood financial troubles. You are already in a very good situation. Don’t lose your happiness by thinking too much.”
‘Learn to spend on yourself too’
Another user advised, “Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. You have done very well. Spend time and money on yourself without feeling guilty. There will never be a stage where you will feel like I am completely rich now. So be grateful for your achievements and look back from time to time to see how far you have come.”
