An Indian-American doctor shared a video of a racist joke on Bindi. On this he received more racist comments like ‘Go back to India’. He expressed shock and sadness at this online hatred.
An Indian-American doctor has faced racist comments over a video made on wearing a bindi. Plastic surgeon Dr. Karishma Reddy has given his reaction on this. Actually, Dr. Karishma had shared an old experience of hers on Instagram reel. This incident happened when she was studying at Georgia Medical College in America and had gone to a rural area for a case study.
There she was checking up a diabetic patient. Meanwhile, the patient’s wife asked Karishma why she had put this dot on her forehead. Before Karishma could answer, the patient said jokingly, ‘After marriage, her husband will scratch it and see whether she got a motel or a gas station.’
Karishma told in the video that she was very saddened by the incident of that day and she returned home quietly. He also said that he shared this video just as an old memory. But after this there was a flood of racist comments on his video.
The doctor said, ‘I have never seen so many anti-India comments in my life. I was born and brought up in this country, yet I received many comments like ‘go back to India’. He further said that because of working in the healthcare sector, he has always received love and respect from people. Therefore, such hate comments online were very shocking for him.
He said that it does not cost anyone anything to treat others with kindness and respect. It is sad that so much hatred is spreading online in the society. Many people supported Karishma on this post. At the same time, some people also said that the people of the village are very sweet and kind, they may have made this joke out of ignorance.
