New Delhi: Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, which was burning for a month, may have calmed down after the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday and the withdrawal of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) movement, but the real storm is yet to come. When Parliament proceedings begin today after the weekend vacation, the atmosphere is expected to be extremely noisy and full of confrontation. The opposition is all set to attack NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, police brutality on students and siege of the government. But amid this entire incident, the pictures of Jantar Mantar that emerged have revealed a different reality of the country.
Chakravyuh of movement: When student movement became ‘story-stage’ of complaints
Initially, Jantar Mantar was just the voice of the students against the rigging in the NEET examination, but gradually this place transformed into a national notice-board, where every victim was reaching out with his plea. Here the demands and slogans were changing completely every few meters.
- Unique request of a 14 year old child: An 8th class student from Patparganj gave a shocking statement. He had nothing to do with NEET leak or CJP, he just came because his school was harassing him a lot for studies!
- Eyes wandering in search of pension: The story of 38-year-old blind Purushottam Puri, who came to Delhi alone from Madhya Pradesh, shocked everyone. They had become part of this crowd in the hope of resuming their monthly pension which had been stopped for the last 3 months, because they were sure that this was the only place where the government would listen to them.
Red Caps and Seva Dal: Political flavor in student movement
Seeing the success of this student movement, the opposition parties also left no opportunity to intensify their attack on the central government. Jantar Mantar ground had become an arena for political maneuvering.
- 200 workers came from Kannauj: Dozens of Samajwadi Party workers from Kannauj, the parliamentary constituency of Akhilesh Yadav, stood at the protest site wearing the red caps that have become their identity, clearly saying that this government will have to go.
- Service team came from Kochi: Behind the main stage, Congress ‘Seva Dal’ workers were helping in serving food and collecting garbage. An activist said that by coming from Kochi, they are strengthening this movement, because Rahul Gandhi himself had raised his voice against the police brutality on students on July 20.
Women roar: “We want 33% political reservation!”
The scene near Tolstoy Passage was even more surprising. Hundreds of women stood holding placards, led by a 54-year-old woman member of the ‘National Federation of Indian Women’ (NFIW), the women’s wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
- Demand for political representation: He said that support of students is important, but raising the issue of 33% reservation for women in Parliament is equally important.
- Gathering of women’s organizations: Organizations like YWCA India and AIDWA gathered around 500 people and used the platform of Jantar Mantar to raise the voice of women’s rights and political equality.

- Rise of ‘E20 Janata Party’: There is a huge public anger against the Central Government’s mandatory rule of selling 20% ethanol-blended petrol (E20). Transporters and drivers claim that this fuel is causing damage to their vehicles and increasing maintenance costs. On the lines of CJP, a satirical group named ‘E20 Janata Party’ has now been formed, which is demanding 100% pure petrol option for the customers and the resignation of Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
- ‘Cart March’ on 31st July: ‘Team Bharat’ led by entrepreneur Tehseen Poonawala has announced a big ‘Car March’ in New Delhi on 31 July. Soon after, on 4 August, the Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters Association announced a Parliament march, demanding an independent scientific review of the policy.
There may be silence at Jantar Mantar today, but this silence is like the calm before a big storm. It remains to be seen whether the opposition is able to turn this unrest within the Parliament into a new maze for the government or not!
