Muthupandi’s brilliant performance
The 26-year-old athlete lifted a total combined weight of 286 kg, which included 126 kg in snatch and 160 kg in clean and jerk, and finished second on the podium. Malaysia’s Aznil Bin Bidin Muhammad won the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record lift of 299 kg. This is their third consecutive Commonwealth Games title after wins in Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.
Muthupandi made a great start to his campaign and successfully lifted 126 kg in the snatch in his second attempt. After this, he also lifted 160 kg in clean and jerk in his second attempt and secured the silver medal with a total of 286 kg, thereby adding another to India’s medal tally in Glasgow.
