Low marks in NEET re-exam, student commits suicide
Ahilyanagar (Maharashtra) [भारत]July 27 (ANI): A 19-year-old medical aspirant allegedly committed suicide at his home in Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar district after being disappointed with the marks he got in the NEET re-examination, local police said here on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Ankita Suresh Sangle. According to Maharashtra Police, Ankita took this dreadful step after getting 166 marks in the recently held NEET re-examination. Karjat police have registered a case of accidental death and started further investigation.
Ankita’s father Suresh Sangle said that his daughter committed suicide by hanging herself from the fan in her house on Saturday afternoon. He said that Ankita had prepared well for the NEET exam and had also scored good marks initially. However, she was reportedly under stress after allegations of irregularities in the NEET exam surfaced.
Another victim’s family demands justice
Earlier on July 25, the parents of Akanksha Chaturvedi, who committed suicide after the NEET-UG paper leak, have demanded justice and compensation for their daughter, and said that they are not satisfied with the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. His mother Neelam Chaturvedi has demanded strict punishment for the culprits of the paper leak. They also demanded the resignation of the top government leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He told ANI, “My daughter will not come back. We are not satisfied with anything. The government did not come to meet us. What will happen with the resignation? Our daughter should be compensated; we are not satisfied with the resignation. We demand that our daughter gets justice and compensation, and the culprits should be hanged. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned; PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah should also resign. We had to sell our land; will she come back?”
Her father Krishna Kumar Chaturvedi said, “I don’t see anything beyond my daughter. Our daughter wanted to serve the country by becoming a doctor.”
Government announces compensation, minister resigns
The NEET-UG exam was leaked in May, after which the government conducted the exam again on June 21. Union Minister JP Nadda announced that the government has agreed to provide appropriate compensation to the families of NEET aspirants who commit suicide.
Reportedly, several NEET aspirants committed suicide, leading to a widespread controversy over the paper leak.
On July 25, Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he was stepping down in the larger interest of students so that the youth of the country “do not fall into the trap of confusion”. (ANI)
