tehran [ईरान]July 27 (ANI): Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission, on Sunday warned Ukraine over an attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea. One sailor lost his life and another was injured in this attack.
In a post on Twitter, Azizi confirmed that Ukraine’s actions “will definitely be responded to,” indicating Iran’s resolve to respond to threats and attacks. He wrote, “There is always a price for any attack on Iran, and this remains true today; the US and Israel are well aware of this. Ukraine may also soon learn that Iran does not let any action go unanswered,” he added, adding, “The list of miscalculators continues to grow!”
Foreign Minister condemned the attack
His comments came after Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi condemned Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea on Sunday. He warned that the incident “cannot go without answers” and accused Kiev of violating the UN Charter.
In a post on X, Araghchi alleged that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had ordered the attack on the Iranian ship, which killed one sailor, and claimed it was carried out “at the behest of Israel to drag Europe into its war”. He said that in phone conversations with EU High Representative Kaza Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he had made it clear that “one cannot help but answer for what the freeloader sitting in Kiev has done.”
Iran lodged diplomatic protest
Araghchi’s comments came after Iran summoned Ukraine’s acting charge d’affaires in Tehran to lodge a formal protest over the incident. According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Assistant Foreign Minister and Eurasia Director-General Manuchehr Moradi expressed Tehran’s strong opposition and described the attack on the Iranian commercial ship as a “hostile and criminal act.”
Moradi said the attack violates the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, is an act of aggression, and poses “a clear threat to the security of all coastal states”. He said Ukraine should be held accountable for this incident and those responsible should be punished.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also said that Tehran “will firmly defend its national security and interests and will not leave attacks on the lives and property of its citizens unanswered.”
The diplomatic protest came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on X that Ukraine had launched long-range strikes against military-related targets in Russia, including in the Caspian Sea. (ANI)
