After the 3-0 clean sweep by India, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza shared his views on the lessons learned from the series. He also gave information about the working style of the team and the atmosphere of the dressing room.
In the press conference held before the start of the series, Sikandar Raza had predicted competition between the two teams, but now after the defeat, his views have changed. Sikandar Raza said after the match “To be honest, there was a lot to learn. First of all, congratulations to Zimbabwe Cricket for hosting these matches, because if we do not play against the top teams in the world, our country cannot develop. And I think world cricket only gets better when all the countries play good cricket. So the learnings from this series will definitely help us reduce the gap between the top teams and the slightly lower ranked teams, because I think cricket is then and It’s interesting when all the teams play well. And for us, Nyamahuri has proved to be a great player. So, I am very happy.
What did you say about the atmosphere in the dressing room?
When Sikandar Raza was asked, ‘Tell us about the team, the working style of the team and the atmosphere in the dressing room, because the last few months have been amazing and if we talk about the World Cup held earlier this year’, then he said, “This journey started long ago. We wanted to make some changes in the dressing room. We wanted to support each other in success. We also wanted to support each other in failures. We wanted to play with our heart. We wanted to play with all our heart. We wanted to bowl with intent and bat with intent. Especially in this new phase, we want to adapt to the level of world cricket. And I have no problem with that, once we gain the lessons, we will be at par with the level of world cricket. If Zimbabwe comes into the field, we will definitely be successful.”
What is the further planning?
You have some time before you leave for the tri-series in Namibia. What are you planning to do in the next three-four weeks in terms of preparation for that tour? Responding to this question, the Zimbabwe captain said, “I will definitely try to score runs for myself. That will be my first priority (smiling). No, the team has performed very well even without my contribution. But as a leader, I know what my weakness is and what I need to do. And I still have to lead this team in everything I do. But I am very happy that the team has performed well even without me scoring runs. Hopefully, when I contribute, If I start giving, my contribution to the team’s success will be even greater. And I am sure those runs will come soon.”
