On Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the martyrs and announced to increase the ex-gratia amount of Param Vir Chakra winners from Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2 crore.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the Martyr Memorial at Gandhi Park in Dehradun on Sunday and paid emotional tribute to the immortal martyrs of Kargil by offering a wreath on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas (Valour Day). During this, he honored the families of Kargil martyrs and paid tribute to their unique courage, sacrifice and service to the nation. On this occasion, the Chief Minister made an important announcement saying that the ex-gratia amount given to the warriors awarded with Param Vir Chakra will be increased from Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2 crore.
Kargil Victory is an immortal chapter of courage and sacrifice of the Indian Army.
The Chief Minister said that Kargil victory is a symbol of the indomitable courage, unwavering morale and patriotism of the Indian Army. He said that the bravery shown by the Indian soldiers in extremely difficult conditions at an altitude of more than 18 thousand feet proved India’s military capability and determination in front of the whole world.

75 brave sons of Uttarakhand made supreme sacrifice in Kargil war
The Chief Minister said that 527 soldiers of the country had sacrificed their lives in the Kargil war of 1999. These included 75 brave soldiers of Uttarakhand. He said that Uttarakhand is not only Devbhoomi but also Veerbhoomi. The glorious military tradition here, the legacy of gallantry medal winners and the dedication of the youth towards serving the country is an inspiration for the entire country.
Country’s security policy strengthened under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s security policy has become stronger, decisive and confident than before. Strict action against terrorism, rapid development of infrastructure in border areas and steps taken towards self-reliant India in the defense sector are examples of this. He said that many historic decisions related to One Rank-One Pension, National War Memorial and Sainik Welfare have enhanced the respect of soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families.
Many big schemes of the state government for soldiers and martyr families
The Chief Minister said that the Uttarakhand government is continuously working for the welfare of soldiers, ex-servicemen and martyr families. He said that the ex-gratia amount given to the dependents of martyrs has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Apart from this, there has also been a historic increase in the lump sum and annual assistance received by all gallantry award winners.
Martyr families, bravery award winners and ex-servicemen are getting special facilities
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state government has made arrangements for adjustment in government service to a member of the martyr families. The time limit for application has also been extended from two years to five years. Apart from this, many facilities like financial assistance for the marriage of daughters of martyr families, free travel in Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses to bravery award winners, exemption in stamp duty on purchasing property to serving and ex-servicemen are being provided. He said that the process of arms license for ex-servicemen is also being made easier. Also, efforts will be made to quickly dispose of the pending cases related to land fraud of soldiers and ex-servicemen in the district courts.
Military base construction in final stage, will become a symbol of patriotism
The Chief Minister said that the construction of the fifth Dham of Uttarakhand ‘Sainya Dham’ in Guniyal village of Dehradun is in the final stage. He said that this military base, which is being built with sacred soil brought from the house of every martyr of the state, will inspire patriotism, renunciation and sacrifice to the coming generations.
The country’s first employment cell will be formed for the future of firefighters.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is taking concrete steps to secure the future of retired firefighters. He informed that the country’s first ‘Agniveer Employment Cell’ is being set up in Uttarakhand. Along with this, work is also being done to give priority to firefighters in Uttarakhand Police, Forest Department and other government services, skill development training, self-employment, homestay scheme and providing special assistance in border areas.
Call to contribute in building developed Uttarakhand
The Chief Minister appealed to the people of the state to take inspiration from the sacrifice and bravery of the immortal martyrs of Kargil and take active participation in building a developed India and self-reliant Uttarakhand. He said that the sacrifice of the heroes of Kargil will always inspire the coming generations for national service, devotion to duty and dedication towards the motherland.
Sainik Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi also paid tribute
Soldier Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi said that Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of the indomitable courage, valor and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Army. He said that in the 1999 Kargil war, Indian soldiers showed unparalleled bravery while protecting the country’s borders in difficult circumstances.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government is continuously taking decisions in the interest of soldiers, ex-servicemen and martyr families. The honorarium of gallantry award winners has been increased and till now the dependents of 28 martyrs have been adjusted in government service.
On this occasion, many dignitaries including Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLA Munna Singh Chauhan, office bearer Subhash Barthwal, Secretary of Sainik Welfare Department Yugal Kishore Pant, Major General Sammi Sabarwal (Retd), District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, SSP Pramendra Doval, former military officers, ex-soldiers and families of Kargil martyrs were present.
