New Delhi [भारत]July 25 (ANI): Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation showed that governments cannot ignore the voice of citizens protesting peacefully and consistently. Tharoor praised Gen Z for turning their frustration over exam irregularities into action, saying the youth have strengthened democracy by holding the government accountable.
Tharoor praised Gen Z
In a video, Tharoor said, “The resignation of the Education Minister is a crucial moment. It reminds us of something fundamental about democracy: When citizens peacefully and consistently raise their voices, governments cannot remain indifferent. Today, it is not about them. It is about an entire generation of young Indians. And Gen Z, I am so proud of you. You channeled your frustration into action. You channeled your anger with courage, creativity and conviction. You shut up.” Refused to stay and you reminded the country that democracy is not just about those who rule, but also about those who hold governments accountable.”
He further said that the resignation was an important step, but reforms, transparent scrutiny and accountability are needed to restore confidence in the examination system.
He further said, “Keep making memes, keep being cool, keep asking uncomfortable questions, keep exposing hypocrisy, but above all, keep showing up. I know that a resignation cannot ease the anxiety, uncertainty and hardship faced by millions of young Indians. It alone cannot restore faith in our examination system. This requires transparent investigations, accountability of those responsible and reforms that ensure that no student has to go through this again.” Your voices have made an impact. Keep believing that your voice can change India. This is just the beginning.
Government gave assurance, agitation is over
The statement came after Pradhan announced his resignation, in which he said he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the interest of students and to ensure that “anti-national forces” do not take advantage of the ongoing protests over exam irregularities. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was given the charge of the Education Ministry after President Draupadi Murmu accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation from the Union Council of Ministers, amid massive student-led protests across the country over the NEET paper leak.
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das said that the youth have given a clear message to the next Union Education Minister that they will continue to raise their concerns if their issues are not resolved. Speaking to reporters, Das said, “The youth have warned that whoever becomes the next Union Education Minister, if their issues are not resolved, they will again come to Jantar Mantar and demand accountability from the government…”
Additionally, Union Minister JP Nadda said that the government has assured that no action will be taken against the organizers and protesters involved in the agitation, and that no new cases will be registered in connection with the protests. In a post on Twitter, Nadda wrote, “Today held the third round of talks with the CJP delegation. The delegation submitted a written proposal covering matters related to the agitation along with its five-point charter. The government assured that no action will be taken against the organizers and protesters, and no new cases will be registered in connection with the agitation. It also expressed condolences to the families of the students who lost their lives and assured them of the highest possible compensation as per rules.”
The post further read, “The government has responded positively to the five-point charter on examination and education reforms and will continue discussions with the delegation. Students and youth have been requested to end the agitation peacefully and allow the dialogue process to continue.”
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also said, “The third round of talks with representatives of the protesters related to the NEET issue concluded successfully this evening, following which a joint press conference was held to end the agitation with immediate effect.” (ANI)
