The last few days have been very bad for T20 World Champion Team India. As soon as the captain was changed, the team suddenly faltered and lost two consecutive T20 series. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team first suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Ireland and then got washed out by England too. But not only the series, but Team India also lost its number-1 ranking. After this failure and embarrassment, Team India is now back on track. Under the leadership of Iyer, Team India not only won the series by defeating Zimbabwe, but also regained the first position in the rankings.
Team India achieved this success on Saturday 25th July in Harare. In the second match of the T20 series against Zimbabwe, the Indian team achieved a big victory by 90 runs. In this match, Team India had made a big score of 219 runs. After this, Team India won the match by defeating Zimbabwe for just 129 runs. This was India’s second consecutive win in this 3-match series and it won the series with a 2-0 lead.
This is also Team India’s first series win under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer and on the basis of this, it has once again become the number-1 team in the ICC T20 rankings. Exactly 14 days ago, on July 11, Team India was snatched away from the number-1 rank after the defeat in the 5th T20 match against England. England itself had snatched this chair from Team India but now within 2 weeks India has returned to the top. According to the latest ranking, both the teams have 268 points but due to a slight difference, Team India has risen from second place to first place. England is back on second place.
After winning the series, Team India will now have its eyes on a clean sweep. The last match of the series will be played on this ground on Sunday 26th July. However, Team India can enter this match with at least 2-3 changes. Captain Iyer himself clearly said after the match that he can field other players in the last match to test the strength of the team.
