Pakistan batter Saim Ayub achieves embarassing record after 2nd consecutive duck in Asia Cup 2025

New Delhi: Pakistan opener Saim Ayub’s disastrous run with the bat continued in his side’s crucial group-stage clash against UAE in the Asia Cup 2025 on Wednesday as he got on a 2-ball duck. It was Ayub’s third consecutive duck in the tournament as he was dismissed on ducks in Pakistan’s opener against Oman and their 7-wicket defeat against India last week.

Ayub, a highly rated young batter in Pakistan, was expected to play a key role for his team in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. However, he is yet to open his account in the tournament. He was trapped lbw by Shah Faisal to bag a Golden Duck in Pakistan’s opening match of the tournament against Oman, before bagging a second straight Golden Duck against India last week.

On Wednesday, he was dismissed by Junaid Siddique on a duck in the penultimate ball of the first over from the pacer. With his third straight duck in the tournament, Ayub extended his tally of ducks to five in T20Is this year, achieving an embarrassing feat. He equalled the unwanted record for most ducks by a Pakistani batter in a calendar year in T20Is.

He equalled his teammate Hassan Nawaz, who has also been dismissed five times on a duck in 2025 so far. Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava holds the unwanted record for the most ducks in a calendar year in T20Is. He was dismissed six times on a duck in T20Is in 2024.

Most ducks in a calendar year in T20Is:

Richard Ngarava (Zimbabwe) – 6 ducks, 2024
Blessing Muzarabani (Zimbabwe) – 5 ducks, 2024
Regis Chakabva (Zimbabwe) – 5 ducks, 2022
Sanju Samson (India) – 5 ducks, 2024
Saim Ayub (Pakistan) – 5 ducks, 2025
Hassan Nawaz (Pakistan) – 5 ducks, 2025
