New Delhi: A shocking video of famous activist Sonam Wangchuk, who made nationwide headlines regarding the NEET-UG paper leak issue, has spread like wildfire on social media. In this video recorded inside Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, 59-year-old Wangchuk is seen extremely angry and under mental stress. He is having a heated argument with the hospital doctors, staff and Delhi Police officials deployed for security and demanding his immediate release or arrest. What happened inside the hospital that Wangchuk said angrily, “Arrest me… if I die, you will be responsible.” This viral video has raised serious questions on the functioning of the hospital administration and the government, after which Safdarjung Hospital had to hurriedly present its clarification.
‘Are you a doctor or a butcher?’-When Wangchuk’s anger erupted in the hospital room
The entire drama reportedly happened on July 21, 2026, in a VIP ward of the hospital. Wangchuk was forcibly brought to Safdarjung Hospital after his health deteriorated during the hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on July 18. In the viral video, Wangchuk is seen extremely hurt after being locked in the room. He shouted at the staff, “Tell them to arrest me. Why am I being held hostage here? You all are mentally torturing me. If I die because of this stress, it will be your entire responsibility. Please open the door; I am leaving from here. You are shameless people.” Not only this, Lal Wangchuk angrily accused the medical fraternity of selling his soul and said, “Are you a doctor or a butcher? Ask your senior doctor. I wanted to leave here with gratitude, but regretfully I have to say that this is the worst institution in the country.”
What was seen in the viral video?
In the video that is becoming increasingly viral on social media, Sonam Wangchuk is seen trying to get out of the hospital room. In the video, he repeatedly asks the hospital administration and police officers on what basis he is being stopped. Expressing displeasure, he said that if he is not allowed to go out, he should be formally arrested. In the video, Wangchuk is also heard saying that he feels like a prisoner in the hospital and that unnecessary pressure is being put on him. He alleged that being kept under constant stress could have a serious impact on his health.

‘Have you received orders for misbehavior?’-Wife Gitanjali surrounded the police
Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali Angmo was also present during this high-voltage drama, who was leading Wangchuk’s ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) campaign outside the hospital. In the video, Geetanjali is also seen getting angry at the heavy police force deployed there and their stubborn attitude. He interrupted a police officer and said, “You are being rude to us… Have you received special orders from above to behave so arrogantly and cruelly?” Immediately after this, it can be seen in the video that Wangchuk tries to forcibly leave the room bypassing the security cordon.
Safdarjung Hospital’s argument: Conspiracy hatched in ‘no-videography zone’?
As soon as the video went viral, the Ghiresfarjung Hospital administration issued an official statement on Saturday and gave a clarification. The hospital says the video was secretly recorded by Wangchuk’s own colleagues in a restricted ‘no-videography zone’ within their premises. According to the hospital, on July 21, Delhi High Court had ordered to shift Wangchuk to the hospital of his choice (Medanta). The hospital argued, “At the time this video was recorded, the written order of the court had not reached the administration. Wangchuk was insisting on being released immediately only on the basis of media reports. As soon as the official order of the court was received at 6:40 pm, we immediately handed him over to the team of doctors at Medanta Gurugram.”
26 days fast and that secret agreement at midnight
It is noteworthy that Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike for 26 days against the NEET-UG paper leak, had alleged that she was being treated like a prisoner in Safdarjung Hospital. However, he ended his fast late Thursday night at Medanta Hospital after receiving written assurances from the government. The government has assured that there will be an open discussion in Parliament on the examination reforms, compensation will be given to the families of the victim students and FIRs registered against peaceful protesters will be withdrawn. But this video of Safdarjung Hospital has made it clear how much tension was going on behind this agreement.
