Jana Nayagan Day 2 Box Office: Vijay’s Film Crashes by 50%

Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan witnessed a sharp drop at the box office on its second day.

After a strong opening on Thursday, the H. Vinoth directorial collected Rs 21.15 crore net in India on Friday, marking a fall of nearly 50.5 per cent from its Day 1 earnings.

Despite the steep decline, the political action drama crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide within two days.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan had earned Rs 42.70 crore net in India on its opening day. With the Day 2 collection of Rs 21.15 crore, its total India net now stands at Rs 63.85 crore.

The film’s India gross reached approximately Rs 75 crore in two days.

Overseas, the Vijay-starrer added around Rs 10 crore gross on Day 2, taking its international total to Rs 37.50 crore.

The film’s worldwide gross collection now stands at nearly Rs 112.50 crore.

The Tamil version continued to contribute the largest share. It collected Rs 17.95 crore on Friday from 6,304 shows, with an overall occupancy of around 44 per cent.

The Hindi version earned Rs 1.85 crore, while the Telugu version collected Rs 1.35 crore.

Jana Nayagan was released in theatres on July 23 after facing several delays and certification issues.

The film had generated massive buzz as it was promoted as Vijay’s final movie before he shifts his full attention to politics.

Directed by H. Vinoth, the film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain in important roles.

While the film has achieved a strong worldwide total, the huge second-day drop has raised questions about its performance over the opening weekend.
